June showers

It has rained nine of the last eleven days here. I am in heaven. By this time of year it has usually gotten up to about 95 maybe even 100 degrees. Today, it was 55.

Somehow 55 degrees feels different in June than it does in March. In March it's harsh, and holds memories of freezing temperatures. In June, it holds the promise of a beautiful summer ahead. Am I the only one who thinks that? When I tried to explain that concept to someone today they looked at me like I was nuts.

I probably am nuts.

I love all this rain. Everything is so green. Plus the lightning and thunder has been amazing. Usually everything has dried out by now, and I'm running from my air conditioned car to the air conditioned building (where I then need a jacket). I think I could live happily in a place like Portland or Seattle. (And now that I know the right hair products so could my hair.) But I was born in a desert. A beautiful and amazing desert.

So I went to a wedding shower tonight for my best friend's little brother. I could talk about how it makes me feel old that he's getting married. But it doesn't. Not really. I'm just really really excited for him. He's found a girl who can stand up to him, who laughs at him and with him, and someone who has him totally and completely head over heels. I didn't think I'd see this day so soon. But considering he's like my little brother, the only thing I'm feeling is happiness. (Bonus: Since he's only technically my little bro, their whole family will not be asking me when I'll be getting married. Woohoo!).

Plus I got a cute little new dress that I'm accessorizing with fabulous turquoise jewelry and darling shoes. How can you be unhappy about new clothes? Let's just hope it gets here in time. Good karma universe, good karma. I did let that jerk cut in front of me today after all. I could have sped up, but I didn't.

The point of me telling you about all of this is that at the shower tonight they had absolutely the most amazing salad. It was a Roasted Shrimp and Orzo salad. Amazing. I'm pretty sure I could eat that from now until I exploded and be happy about it. I think you should all try it. Not the exploding, but the making and eating of the salad. One little note, instead of the feta they put mozzarella in the salad and it gave it a much more subtle flavor. I highly recommend that alteration.

Ah. Katie. I need to get out of a writing slump. You always say everything perfectly. I agree about Summer rain. Hate it in Feb/Mar, but in the summer it is mysterious and completely fine.

P.s. loving Toni's quote:)

Cute dresses, darling shoes, wonderful weather and delicious food: it doesn't get much better than that! Congrats on your happy events.

You made me think again about complaining about the rain today. You're right..it is a nice thing overall.

Dresses and shoes....yay!

One cannot be unhappy while wearing turquoise jewelry, its like a rule.

The not so hot weather has been a nice change from summers past.

You're not crazy. You're absolutely right. Cool, rainy weather is such a respite in Utah, land of extreme temperatures. I think these 9 days you mentioned might be the only 9 of the year. :) But it is beautiful... the stifling heat and all.

I love turquoise jewelry. I makes me feel like myself. I wish I could see your dress! Maybe you should send me a link or take a picture.

Yes, you are extremely crazy for liking 55 degree weather in June. We get so little of summer; I'll soak up as many 95 degree days as the universe will give!
